According to Site Selection Magazine, Ohio saw 82 projects from international firms land in 2013, bringing $1.3 billion in investment and creating 4,131 jobs. Companies from Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Luxembourg invested in singular projects with values over $50 million, led by Honda’s major investments in engine manufacturing ($180 million) and assembly ($70 million).
Eleven international companies have operations in Ashtabula County, including Cristal, which is owned by a Saudi Arabian investment group. Cristal has about 600 employees in the county. The company is the world’s second-largest producer of titanium dioxide (TiO2), a bright white powder made from titanium ore that has the ability to pigment virtually any material.
